You are determined to have a billiard table so you can have the ultimate entertaining experience. You have also decided that it must be the full size table so your game is the ultimate in billiards skill. It took some working out where to put your table because a full size billiard table needs a room that is at least 22'x15' so you have room for the table and enough room all round to use the cue. Nothing worse than trying to play pool when you keep bumping your cue into walls and furniture. So that minimum size is just for the table and game room so you need to allow extra space for furniture etc.
Because the factory built tables have a slate base to let your pool balls run straight and true we need to be able to simulate that somehow. The problem with billiard tables is the moving of them as they are just too heavy and so must be dismantled. The idea is to have your table installed nice and level and true and never have to move it again. If you move house you just sell it with the house and start again. That is going to be the problem with our home built table too. It is going to be too heavy to move or dismantle so will have to stay there for ever. This is not a problem unless you decide to sell and like we said before just add it to the price of the house. It would make a good selling point anyway to offer a house with billiard room complete with full size table.
So how do we simulate the slate top. One way is to use concrete. Build your table and move it into place in your billiard room. Then pour the solid top in fine concrete, very smoothly finished on top and then when you place your billiard cloth you will not be able to tell you are not playing on slate. I know, it sounds a bit scary but all you need is some good plans and patterns and you will find the whole project easy.
There are lots of plans available now so check them out and pick out your new billiard table. get stuck in and get it built, pick out some pool balls and cues and you are away. You have the ultimate entertaining experience. Nothing like pitting your skill against the balls on a full size billiard table.
